Who we are
Statement From the PHCAA Founders for 2006 PHCAA has been the leading Filipino independent, non partisan, non-political, not-for-profit organisation in Australia that provides assistance to overseas nurses and professionals on how they can best come into Australia and to have their qualifications recognised. For almost two years now, PHCAA have worked and continued to liaise with the Philippine Consulate in Sydney and with various Universities both in Sydney and the Philippines in promoting to establish a Philippine venue for the bridging course in nursing. This will soon be realised in the few months to come. In cooperation with Astute Training and some government entities, PHCAA have encouraged and assisted Filipinos who have been away from the workforce for some time, by evaluating their skills to qualify for the health care services and at the same time benefit from the rebate payment schemes of the government. We take this opportunity to congratulate the first 12 graduates of this program. Through the auspices of PHCAA, various hospitals and clinics in the Philippines have been the recipient of medical supplies and equipment worth over A$350,000. PHCAA is recognised internationally by PNAA (Phil Nurses Association of America), PNA (Philippines) and PNA-UK. PHCAA is funded by its founding members, its business networks and affiliates and supported by all its bonifide members. PHCAA holds a once-a-year Annual AGM, and Christmas Dinner & Dance Party at a special discounted rate for all its members. As Filipinos who have been educated in the Philippines, we can never be thankful enough to our fatherland, which made us for what we are now. It is in this spirit that we are also calling you to join us in serving our “kababayans” in the Philippines in return for the service our country has provided to each and every one of us. From PHCAA to Health Care Workers The Phillipine Health Care Association of Australia began as one man’s dream, Fred Silvano’s dream, and his vision to help both our countrymen and women as well as to do service to our adopted home country, Australia. It is like shooting two birds with one stone. He shared this vision to his colleagues who in turn shared the same desire to be of service to our fellow countrymen and women in our community. Indeed, this association calls us all for service! To quote the words of Alfred, he said: “This organisation does not promise recognition or bed of roses. This is a “Work of the Heart”, because we want to give something back to the Filipino community, be it here in Australia or in the Philippines or both. This is our way of thanking the Philippines, our birth country, our homeland, for giving us our family, our religion and our distinct culture which has made us what we are.” At the same time, we are also grateful to Australia for accepting and nurturing us in this land we now call home. The Filipino-Australian health care workers and professionals truly have done an enormous service to our community here in Australia, which needs to be commended and acknowledged. So much time and effort has been exerted to make The Phillippine Health Care Associaiton of Australia a reality – the realization and birth of a dream. It is therefore fitting to congratulate and thank all the members of the PHCAA Board and PHCAA Management Committee, friends and the Sponsors for gearing this association toward its formal launching and introduction to the community. However, this is only the beginning and so much more work lies ahead. Like a growing tree we are still in its infant stage and we need to grow and to produce the fruits of our labour. This will be seen through our future projects and activities and it will be our way of fulfilling ultimately the mission of our association – that is to uphold the image and promote the welfare of all Filipino-Australian health care workers and professionals. Hence, the motto of our association is: “to ask not what the community can do for us but what we can do for our fellow men and women and everyone in the community with whom we come in contact with.” So I call on all the members and officers and friends to join us in our bold venture and to accept this challenge!
